Toyota extends production shutdown

Toyota plants in Woodstock and Cambridge now set to resume production on May 4

TOYOTA MOTOR MANUFACTURING Canada has announced it is extending its shutdown of automobile and components plants in Canada and across North America through May 1, with production now set to resume May 4.

The automaker, with plants in Woodstock and Cambridge, was scheduled to reopen April 20, but that has been pushed back as vehicle sales drop, stated a release from Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada.

“Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and decline in vehicle demand, Toyota is further extending the length of its production suspension at all of its automobile and components plants in North America, including Canada, Mexico and the U.S.,” the release said.

“The manufacturing facilities will remain closed through May 1, resuming production on May 4. Our service parts operations and finished vehicle logistics centres will continue to operate in order to meet the ongoing needs of our customers. We will continue to monitor the situation and take appropriate action in a timely manner.”

The Cambridge and Woodstock Toyota plants assemble the RAV4 and Lexis RX and NX vehicles.
