London Chamber joins call for smarter reopening

Canadian Chambers call for immediate action to coordinate business reopenings for the safety of workers and consumers

CANADIAN BUSINESS CHAMBERS (including the Canadian Chamber of Commerce and all provincial and territorial chambers) have penned a joint memo to the federal government ― copied to all provincial and territorial governments ― urging the federal government to take immediate action to coordinate with the provinces and territories a safe and stable reopening of the economy for the safety of workers and consumers.

“London’s business community is eager to reopen safely and responsibly, just like every city, town and village across the country,” said Gerry Macartney, CEO of the London Chamber. “But we can’t reopen without being smart, being extraordinarily careful and with the appropriate critical elements in place.”

“We want to reopen but with the proper protection and training.”

According to the memo, the critical elements needed to do so are personal protective equipment, smart quarantine policies, protection for the most vulnerable, mass testing, contact tracing and workforce management systems.
