Caring for those with disabilities

An upcoming virtual learning event focuses on caring for individuals living with disabilities during the pandemic

THE PHYSICAL AND psychological effects of the Covid-19 pandemic are wide-reaching and affect every one of us in personal ways. But for the 6.2 million adults and children living with disabilities in Canada, it has presented its own unique challenges: disrupting the routines that help our loved-ones thrive, cancelling much-needed support programs and adding undue pressure onto the shoulders of already overextended caregivers.

To help support the disabilities community and their caregivers, and discuss in an open-format the challenges they are facing, Sarnia-based Dr. Blake Pearson is hosting a free virtual Lockdown Learning Event (his fifth educational, self-care webisode) on June 24 at 7 p.m. Dr. Pearson will be joined by Jessica Moran, principal and founder at marketing and communications firm JessCo, disabilities advocate and mother and sister of autistic individuals. Their conversation will focus on how the pandemic is impacting children, adults and families with disabilities, and share practical advice to help those that need it.

Dr. Pearson will also offer additional support tools to individuals and families that need it, including a free resources page with contacts and resource contributions from other experts in the field, following every live event.
