Summer flex

Dundas Place to close to vehicle traffic on weekends for the remainder of the summer

DUNDAS PLACE, THE city’s purpose-built downtown flex street, will be closing to vehicles on weekends starting this Friday to allow for more patio and retail space for core businesses and increase physically distanced space for pedestrians and cyclists.

Vehicle traffic will be rerouted on Dundas Street from Talbot to Wellington streets on Friday and Saturday evenings (between 6 p.m. and 11 p.m.) and Sunday during the days (between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.). The flex program will operate for the duration of the summer.

The city says the move will add further flexibility for physical distancing as more businesses prepare to open patios and foot traffic increases in the core.

“While Dundas Place is not able to host traditional events or summer festivals downtown at this time, the city can still take advantage of the flex street’s ability to open and close to vehicle traffic, said Mayor Ed Holder in a statement.

The city is also adding temporary sanitization stations throughout the stretch of Dundas Place. Summer flex Development
