Mergers & Acquisitions

Northern Commerce purchases Digital Echidna

Following a month-long engagement, Northern Commerce is purchasing Digital Echidna and will house all employees at its Wellington Street headquarters

TWO OF LONDON’S leading digital agencies, Northern Commerce and Digital Echidna, today announced their intent to merge.

Digital Echidna has been purchased by Northern Commerce, but the two businesses say it will resemble a merger, with all staff remaining and doing the work they always have done.

Following an exploratory partnership phase first announced in June, the agencies mutually identified the advantages afforded by a merger after a review of their core values, processes and service offerings.

“By combining our unique strengths, we are distinctly positioned to expand the reach of our eCommerce expertise and enhance our complementary technical capabilities to drive significant growth for our clients” ―Michael Delorenzi

According to the two firms, the intent to become one united agency links the partner agencies’ shared mission to create digital experiences that accelerate client growth.

“As brands continue to invest in digital transformation, it is becoming increasingly important for agencies to provide a holistic approach and seamless experience,” said Michael Delorenzi, president of Northern Commerce. “By combining our unique strengths, we are distinctly positioned to expand the reach of our eCommerce expertise and enhance our complementary technical capabilities to drive significant growth for our clients.”

“This merger creates a digital solutions powerhouse with a focus on bringing the best of breed omni-channel experiences for users across all sectors. I look forward to the opportunity to showcase our talented staff to new markets across North America,” added Andrew McClenaghan, president of Digital Echidna.

The two firms offer distinct capabilities and services which have delivered digital development for some of North America’s most recognized organizations in retail, healthcare and education, including Rexall, Andrew Peller, Napoleon Grills, United Nations, WSIB, and George Brown College.

The two agencies will continue to operate independently under separate names until the merger officially unites the teams under the Northern brand by the end of the year.

With the merger, Northern will become one of Canada’s largest agencies, employing over 150 experts in web development, digital marketing, and user experience design.

Both teams will be housed together at Northern’s 35,000-square-foot head office at 300 Wellington Street.
