The London area’s unemployment rate dipped lower in November

THE LONDON REGION’S unemployment rate fell in November by half of a percentage point, according to figures released Friday by Statistics Canada.

The jobless rate for the London Census Metropolitan Area, which includes St. Thomas, Strathroy and portions of Middlesex and Elgin counties, was 8.4 per cent in November. It was 8.9 per cent in October.

According to Stats Can, fewer people were actively looking for work in the region last month, which was reflected in a drop in the participation rate, which fell from 62.1 per cent in October to 61.3 per cent in November.

Nationally, the unemployment rate fell to 8.5 per cent, down from 8.9 per cent in October, while Ontario’s jobless rate dipped to 9.1, down from 9.6 the previous month.
