RESIDENTIAL REAL ESTATE records continue to fall across our region, but looking back over the past month, here is what I consider to be the most important milestone: The London Community Foundation brought together five social agencies tasked with addressing the need for affordable housing in London. Together, they entered into an agreement with the City of London to acquire more than a city block of real estate on South Street in SoHo (South of Horton). Over the next five years, the consortium will be spending $150 million creating housing solutions for Londoners that are sorely needed.

Across the street, Medallion Corporation is actively building high-density on the site of the old Victoria Hospital campus, fronting the river. And at the same time, the city is in the early stages of building the Wellington Gateway of the BRT, with a station planned right where South Street meets Wellington Road.
Altogether, these investments represent one of the most significant changes ever conceived for a neighbourhood in our city. This is the dawn of change, improvement and density in SoHo. It’s taken decades to achieve this level of intensification and infill. Let’s celebrate the accomplishment!
