Hospitals named top places to work
London’s hospitals rank high on Forbes list of Canada’s Best Employers
APPARENTLY, LONDON HOSPITALS aren’t just good at keeping our community healthy, they are also the top places for people to work in Canada, according to a new ranking.
Forbes, in partnership with market research firm Statista, has released its annual Canada’s Best Employers list and both St. Joseph’s Health Care London and London Health Sciences Centre made the cut.

St. Joseph’s, with 4, 569 employees, ranked 102nd on the list of 300 companies. LHSC, with approximately 15,000 employees, ranked 122nd.
Forbes and Statista compiled the listing by surveying more than 10,000 Canadians working for businesses with at least 500 employees. Participants were asked to rate their willingness to recommend their own employers to friends and family and to nominate organizations other than their own.
As Forbes notes, Canadians often judge their employers by a different set of metrics than their U.S. counterparts. Canada’s universal healthcare system and policy of publicly funded parental leave means companies have to distinguish themselves in other ways to attract and retain talent.

“The 2022 ranking comes during a particularly challenging time for those working in health care, and for hospital organizations confronted with rapidly evolving pandemic scenarios,” St. Joseph’s president and CEO, Roy Butler, and LHSC president and CEO, Jackie Schleifer Taylor, said in a joint statement. “However, St. Joseph’s and LHSC continue to meet these unique challenges in support of our patients, residents, colleagues and our community. This designation is a tribute to both organizations and an accomplishment shared by all leaders, staff, physicians, students and volunteers.
“Great workplaces take great people and London’s hospitals are fortunate to have a total of more than 20,000 individuals focused on exceptional service, who are there for one another, and who are central to maintaining supportive and fulfilling work environments.”
