What would you say is your biggest achievement?

Over the past year, the Municipality of Thames Centre has undergone significant improvements. New roles have been created. Our one-team approach has helped break down silos and foster inclusivity. Communication with staff has increased significantly, including acknowledging national days, expressing gratitude to employees prior to a long week or holiday, sharing safety announcements and making promotional announcements. To me, this represents the biggest business achievement of my career because it demonstrates the value of having a dedicated HR function in a municipal setting.

“I am committed to creating a lasting impact in the community through volunteerism and advocacy. I inspire others to embrace social responsibility and a pay-it-forward philosophy”

Who or what has been your biggest professional influence?

Two extraordinary leaders have profoundly impacted my professional journey: Melissa Maloney, co-founder and executive director of AWL Partners, and David Barrick, chief administrative officer of the Municipality of Thames Centre. Melissa and David embody the essence of transformative leadership. They ignite passion, foster creativity and cultivate growth. With unwavering integrity, they lead by example, earning admiration and respect.

If you weren’t in your current field, what would you be doing?

I’d be a nurse. I’ve always been drawn to the idea of giving back and helping others in a more direct, compassionate way.

An old friend is coming to town, and they’re hungry — where are you taking them for a great meal?

Taco Loco — they have incredible tacos, and it’s local!

What’s left for you to do, professionally or personally?

My ultimate career aspiration is to become a director or vice president of human resources. Beyond my professional aspirations, I am committed to creating a lasting impact in the community through volunteerism and advocacy. I inspire others to embrace social responsibility and a pay-it-forward philosophy. 20 Under 40: Anica Peter anica peter 20 Under 40 Interview by Kieran Delamont
