Food Basics celebrates 30th anniversary by expanding in London, Ontario

Food Basics marks their 30th anniversary with the opening of its latest store ― its 147th location in Ontario ― bringing 100 new jobs to the London community

BIG SAVINGS JUST got a little closer for Londoners! Food Basics is celebrating 30 years as a Canadian grocer by continuing its promise of everyday low prices with the opening of its sixth store in the London region, located at 1530 Rob Panzer Road—just west of Highbury Avenue North and Fanshawe Park Road East.

This brand-new store marks Food Basics’ 147th location in Ontario and brings 100 new jobs to the local community. To celebrate its growing roots in London, Food Basics is making a meaningful impact by donating $5,000 to the London Food Bank, which is affiliated with Feed Ontario. This contribution supports One More Bite, METRO Inc’s food recovery initiative that has already redistributed over 35.5 million kilograms of food since 2016, tackling food insecurity and reducing waste.

Doors open on May 8, with weekday hours from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekends. Opening weekend shoppers are in for a treat—the first 250 customers will receive exclusive gift bags, and from Thursday to Saturday, visitors can enjoy free samples in-store.

The new store is especially meaningful to long time London resident, John Manax, Food Basics’ Vice President of Operations. Manax launched his career with the brand nearly 30 years ago, opening the third London store in 1996.

“We are excited to be able to bring Food Basics to more members of the London community, offering more ways for residents to save on quality products” says Manax. “As our sixth location in London, many will be familiar with us, and for those who are first-time shoppers they will get to know Food Basics as a discount grocer that is a reliable source for always fresh, always in-stock, healthy food at always great prices.”

Manax has spent his life in Southwestern Ontario, with deep roots in the London community, where he continues to live with his wife and raised his three daughters. “As a longtime resident myself, the London community is so important to me,” continues Manax. “It’s where I’ve raised my family and where I started my career at Food Basics, opening the 47th store nearly 30 years ago and now to be opening our 147th store is truly remarkable.”

Since 1995, Food Basics has helped Ontarians get “Always More for Less,” and this year, the brand is proudly celebrating 30 years of delivering fresh, reliable groceries at unbeatable prices. With core values like Always Fresh, Always in Stock, and Always at Great Prices, customers know they can count on a consistent and value-packed shopping experience.
