Finding purpose in business

Libro Credit Union invests in the revitalization of Old East Village

LIBRO CREDIT UNION is well-known for growing local impact in communities across Ontario. As one of the province’s largest credit unions, they invest in partnerships and projects that create opportunity and help people reach their full potential.

But their commitment goes beyond just investment – they’re signatories to the Canadian Purpose Economy Project, an invitation for businesses to be a force for good by contributing to health and well-being across society.

This year, Libro is celebrating Purpose in Business Week – a nation-wide effort that happens each November to promote business purpose beyond profit – by announcing a $50,000 gift in support of the London Cross-Cultural Learner Centre’s Doorways to Dreams affordable housing project. Located at 763-773 Dundas Street in the heart of Old East Village, the inclusive, mixed-use housing property will feature 247 one-, two- and three-bedroom units in a six-storey low-rise and 24-storey high-rise tower. With at least 30 per cent affordable units, many of which will also be  accessible, this energy-efficient development will be open to newcomer families and many other Londoners who need safe, barrier-free and affordable homes.

“Strong communities are built when everyone has the opportunity to thrive” — Jason Dearing, Regional Director, London, Libro Credit Union

Libro recognizes that affordable housing is the foundation for financial confidence and participation in the local economy, and is stepping up to empower more of London’s newcomers to find stability and success in their new lives in Canada.

“Strong communities are built when everyone has the opportunity to thrive,” says Jason Dearing, Regional Director, London, Libro Credit Union.

As a purpose-driven credit union, Libro invests in partnerships like this one that help communities flourish and people reach their full potential. By strengthening access to stable housing, employment, and financial opportunity, Libro is fueling greater community well-being.

“When people have the right supports, they thrive and that sense of care and community ripples through the whole community” — Caileigh Robson, Community Manager, Old East Village, Libro Credit Union

As a key business in Old East Village, Libro also understands that Doorways to Dreams will contribute to the renewal of one of London’s most vibrant and historic neighborhoods by supporting small businesses, attracting investment, and fostering community pride.

“There’s so much pride in Old East Village. When our neighbours have what they need to build stability and opportunity, everyone benefits,” said Caileigh Robson, Community Manager, Old East Village, Libro Credit Union. “When people have the right supports, they thrive and that sense of care and community ripples through the whole community. That’s the spirit of Old East Village and why Libro is so proud to be part of this neighbourhood.”

Together, Libro and the Cross-Cultural Learner Centre are addressing the critical need for affordable housing, investing in the future of London’s economy, and creating meaningful community impact in Old East Village.
