Steps that will help you improve your mental health as a busy entrepreneur

Your mental health can be your greatest asset when running a business

DO YOU FEEL as though your mental health has been taking a bit of a dive lately? Maybe you feel as though you need to make a change because of the work-related stress you’re experiencing, but you’re not quite sure how to go about doing it. Either way, this guide will show you what you can do to try and give yourself a more positive foundation to build upon, moving forward.

Be Mindful of the Cause of Your Stress

The first step would be for you to practice being mindful. If you can be mindful and in the moment, then this will help you to reduce both stress and anxiety. You will also find that it’s possible for you to shift your focus away from the things you are worried about and any regrets you may have about the past, to the current moment. Grounding yourself is so important here as well. If you don’t ground yourself, you may find that over time you end up struggling to be present, and this can allow your anxieties to spiral out of control. If you can’t seem to ground yourself in times of intense stress, then using an app or even trying meditation may work.

Consider CBT and Counselling

If you have not tried CBT before, then now could be the time to try it. You can easily find low-cost counselling online, and when you do, you will be connected with a professional who understands your situation and who is able to guide you through the things you can do to try and take more positive steps moving forward. Another reason why you should consider counseling is that it gives you the chance to talk through any of the hard times you have gone through, but may not have come out the other side yet. By processing your stress and your grief, you will find it easier to connect with yourself right now, which can reduce stress.

Get a Support System Outside Work

Reaching out to friends, family, or anyone else who might be of help is one of the best things you can do. A strong support network can help you navigate some of the more challenging things you may be going through in your life, and it can also remind you that you are never alone. Looking after yourself is also so important. You need to look after your well-being, and you also need to practice things like healthy eating. Relaxation techniques can also be explored, as can taking care of your body. Setting small, yet achievable goals is good here, as is making sure that you are not cutting corners to make yourself feel better now, but in reality, are harming your health later down the line. Finding joy in smaller activities will also help as well, such as reading a book or sitting down with a hot cup of coffee. You can use this to your advantage if you have a support system as well, as it gives you a reason to meet up with your friends and family, while ensuring that you’re able to find the power in connection.
