Editorial statement

Statement of apology and editorial clarification

Dear Readers,

In our October issue, I had the pleasure of announcing our 20 Under 40 Class of 2020. Councillor Arielle Kayabaga is among our 20 recipients, selected for her professional accomplishments, dedication to community and volunteer efforts.

As with all 20 Under 40 recipients, Councillor Kayabaga was chosen because she has made a difference. She has demonstrated an ability to move the needle for positive change ― a Londoner who has carved out a role larger than the expectations of her position and someone who has created significant value for us all.

In our Winter 2021 issue, we presented editorial profiles of our 2020 recipients. Councillor Kayabaga did not participate in our editorial processes, and in providing an explanation for her absence I was both inappropriate in tone and insensitive in approach. I want to take this opportunity to apologize to Councillor Kayabaga and to our community.

Once again, congratulations to Councillor Kayabaga and all our 20 Under 40 Class of 2020 recipients. Not only are they a hopeful sign of what our city is to become, they are a barometer of what our city is right now. And that is something of which we all should be proud.

Sincerely,

Gord Delamont
