What is your biggest achievement in business?

Founding and chairing the Ontario Young Leaders has been one of my proudest and biggest business achievements. It is a provincial network for emerging leaders in the credit union industry. Our purpose is to develop and empower Ontario young leaders so that, together, we strengthen ourselves and the credit union system. I am blessed to have an amazing committee of leaders who show up to make a difference in the lives of young leaders and the credit union system. It’s been really rewarding to see this idea become a reality.

What about your biggest obstacle?

I feel I still have a lot to learn about finances, even though I work for a financial institution. I love the credit union system; I believe in cooperative banking and am very passionate about Libro. Finances can be complex, so though I can’t answer questions on investing, I can point you to someone who can!

What has working through this pandemic taught you about yourself or your career?

That work-life balance is important — and it is easy to blur the lines when you work from home. I am a social person, so it’s not surprising that not being around people is hard for me. However, it taught me that I need to slow down, and having a lot of my social commitments cancelled allowed me to really evaluate how much I put on my schedule.

Outside of work, what are some of your favourite pastimes?

I love to get outdoors — hiking, camping, canoeing. Also, rhythm riding, travelling — more locally these days — cooking and going to restaurants, reading, puzzles, card and board games. This list could get long!

What movies or TV have you been watching lately?

Seinfeld is always a favourite. I’ve also been watching Schitt’s Creek and all the James Bond movies!

Guilty pleasure?

Whisky — in ginger ale — and salty snacks. 20 Under 40: Emily Strybosch Emily Strybosch 20 Under 40 Interview by Kieran Delamont
