MOTIF LABS, A cannabis extraction company based in Aylmer, announced on Monday that Health Canada had given them the green light to start shipping cannabis concentrate products across the country.

Primarily a business-to-business enterprise, Motif Labs had previously been approved to produce bulk cannabis distillates that would be used by other cannabis companies in their production of edibles, concentrates and a growing range of additional “Cannabis 2.0” products. This week’s announcement, however, allows Motif Labs to directly produce and ship white-label finished products (as opposed to just raw materials) to provincial wholesalers across the country.

“With legal recreational cannabis sales on the rise in Canada, today’s announcement gives us the added flexibility to support this momentum” ―Mario Naric

“This license opens up an additional revenue stream for Motif, and paves the way for us to bring a number of disruptive cannabis 2.0 brands and products to market,” says the company’s CEO, Mario Naric. “With legal recreational cannabis sales on the rise in Canada, today’s announcement gives us the added flexibility to support this momentum, and to work with brands that are looking to diversify their product portfolio and increase their market share in the industry.”

The announcement is a significant milestone for Motif Labs, which expects to begin shipping these white-label products “in the next couple of weeks,” says Naric, who was also a 20 Under 40 recipient in 2019. “A big part of our business model is servicing brands that do not hold any applicable cannabis licenses but want to launch products into the market. We now have all of the applicable licensing to make that happen.”

The approval positions Motif Labs well for the upcoming year, when the edibles and concentrates market is expected to continue to expand to include a wider range of products. For Motif Labs — a company built around producing these extraction-based products — it “paves the way for us to exercise our expertise and creativity, allowing us to work with brands that are looking to diversify their product portfolio,” Naric says. “Production of a variety of retail cannabis products offered by Motif’s existing brand partners is already underway.” Motif Labs to roll out Cannabis 2.0 products Motif Labs Cannabis Kieran Delamont
