20 Under 40: Kim Tetley
Meet Kim Tetley, 38, executive director at Big Brothers Big Sisters of London and Area and one of our 20 Under 40 Class of 2024 recipients
AS THE EXECUTIVE director of a relatively small but mighty team of 11 at Big Brothers Big Sisters of London and Area, Kim Tetley is a hands-on leader juggling many roles — especially in funding development, where creativity, resourcefulness and tenacity are absolutely key in today’s environment of significantly increased costs and reduced stream funding. Passionate about sharing the incredible impact of their work, she is committed to building a sustainable future for an organization uniquely positioned to support the youth in our community who need it most.

What would you say is your single biggest business achievement, and why?
Being where I am today. I am humbled to lead Big Brothers Big Sisters in London, and this role has been a huge growth opportunity for me. I excel in an environment where I can be a generalist — and this role is it. From strategic planning and fundraising to community building, program development and impact measurement, I have been called upon to be resourceful, operate in a lean environment, always have more to do than time to do it, make tough decisions, all while relentlessly pursuing our mission.
“My team can do it all. We are the definition of ‘other duties as assigned,’ united by purpose, and have a ton of fun doing it”
What is your biggest ambition?
To establish myself as a known non-profit executive in London. To elevate the brand presence of Big Brothers Big Sisters and lead the organization to a place of long-term financial sustainability. To be present in all areas of my life — as a leader, team member, mom and partner.
Who or what was your biggest influence as a professional?
I have changed roles and organizations throughout my career, but the connective thread is working with and in service of youth.
What’s one unexpected thing you like to tell people about your job? We do so much with so little. My team can do it all. We are the definition of ‘other duties as assigned,’ united by purpose, and have a ton of fun doing it.
You’re off on your dream vacation — where are you headed?
To the UK — pubs, pudding and Premier League football. Plus, reunions with great friends — and maybe a trip to the South of France on the way back.
If you weren’t working in your current field, what would you be doing?
My dream is to establish an eco-retreat on some acreage outside of London. Think quiet luxury, unique accommodations — yurts, geodomes and a tree-house. Glamping at its finest, a close-to-home retreat for those who need a break but are short on time to travel north. Investors welcome! Interview by Kieran Delamont
