Lisa Ferguson’s gateway to entrepreneurship began in the family business, and from an early age she didn’t much doubt where she was headed. “All my summer jobs were in retail; I discovered before college that I liked retail and that I was good at,” she recalls. “After graduating, I joined alongside my mother who gave me firsthand experience in running and managing a retail store.”

“For me, entrepreneurship is about taking action, solving problems and making things happen. I’ve always believed that if you have a clear vision, a strong work ethic and the right people around you, success is inevitable”

Today, at the helm of Hangar9, she continues a 40-plus-year tradition of defining and redefining retail fashion by delivering clients a unique blend of shopping, experiential retail and unparalleled service.

“For me, entrepreneurship is about taking action, solving problems and making things happen,” Ferguson says. “I’ve always believed that if you have a clear vision, a strong work ethic and the right people around you, success is inevitable.”

Of course, in today’s new retail economy, Ferguson knows retailers need to think differently about how they create and deliver products. “My advice is to stay focused, trust your instincts and be ready to adapt. Success doesn’t happen overnight, but with consistency, resilience and a clear vision, you’ll build something meaningful. Most importantly, stay passionate and engaged. Loving what you do will be your greatest advantage.”
