20 Under 40: Dr. Emily Jones

Meet Dr. Emily Jones, 38, physician at London Health Sciences Centre, assistant professor, Department of Medicine, Western University and one of our 20 Under 40 Class of 2026 recipients

DR. EMILY JONES is recognized for her leadership in addiction medicine and physician wellness. Serving as vice president of health promotion with the Canadian Society of Internal Medicine, she champions holistic, collaborative care for vulnerable populations. Working with people at the most susceptible moments of their lives — some struggling with addiction, others coping with devastating diagnoses or managing chronic conditions that profoundly affect their daily living — she relies on skill, compassion and teamwork to help individuals regain the best level of function and normalcy available to them.

What is your biggest career achievement so far, or the thing that you’re most proud of?

Helping to kick-start an inpatient addiction medicine consult service at University Hospital-London Health Sciences Centre.

What about your biggest business obstacle (and how you tackled it)?

Not enough time in a day — a problem tackled with a very vibrant, colour-coordinated calendar that actually reflects the amount of time a task requires.

What kinds of music do you enjoy? 

Indie.

What’s your favourite spot to eat in the city?

David’s Bistro.

What’s one lesson or experience from the past year you’re hoping to carry forward with you?

That it’s okay to book admin weeks and then just sit and catch up. And to write realistic to-do lists.

When you’re not working, what are you most passionate about?

Cooking, reading, knitting, gardening.

What’s one book you think everyone should read?

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.

What advice would you give your younger self?

It’s okay to say no to things, email is how things get done and cherish the connections you make.

On a desert island, what’s the one gratuitous item you’d have to have?

My Kindle.
