Eco-friendly changes to make in your business

Here’s how businesses can integrate eco-friendly practices to build a more sustainable future

WHETHER IT’S FOR the planet, your customers, or savings, running your business in an eco-friendly way pays off. The good news is that you can find some easy changes you can make to ensure your business is more eco-friendly below.

Reduce waste at the source

The first way you can make your business more eco-friendly is to reduce waste at the source.  This means generating less waste in your business processes. One way of doing this is to switch to a paperless office. This can be highly effective because you reduce masses of paper waste instead of relying on digital documents. Another way to reduce waste is to buy materials in bulk.  By doing this, you can reduce the amount of packaging generated. Therefore, create less trash.

You can also reduce waste in your business by avoiding single-use items. Many people tend to think of these as things like water bottles and cups. However, businesses often buy a lot of single-use plastic pens,  and switching to refillable options can help a lot.

Last of all, to truly make sure the amount of business waste you generate is reduced, you need to audit it. This means having a clear idea of what you’re throwing out. Which in turn allows you to come up with more novel ways of reducing,  reusing or selecting items.

Rethink your supply chain

If you want a more eco-friendly business, then rethinking your supply chain is essential. In fact, there are many eco benefits you can gain by being careful about choosing your suppliers. The first of these is reducing transport emissions by opting for local suppliers wherever possible.  Secondly, you can help minimize the demand for new resources by choosing suppliers that work with recycled materials.

Remember that investing in refurbished equipment rather than brand new is not a good idea.  This is because it cannot only save you money but also ensure usable equipment does not end up in landfill.

Dispose of junk responsibly

If you want your business to be more eco-friendly, it makes sense to dispose of any waste and junk responsibly.  One of the most important aspects of this is ensuring that any e-waste is properly recycled.  This is because not only can it help reduce the strain on the planet’s resources, but poorly disposed of e-waste can pollute the environment as well.

One way you can ensure that business items are properly disposed of is to use a junk removal service. The benefit here is that such a service will sift through the items you are getting rid of.  dividing them into those that can be recycled and those that will need to go to the landfill.

Educate your employees

Finally, if you want to make eco-friendly changes to your business, educating your employees is crucial.  Training employees on how to act in a more eco-friendly way can be highly effective.  especially when combined with setting measurable eco goals,  and rewarding green behaviour.  Remember, the key here is to instil an eco-friendly mindset into the culture of your business.
