ANNIE GARRETT AND Rebecca Hynes share more than a practice area — both associates in Harrison Pensa’s Business Law Group bring a growth-oriented mindset to commercial and residential real estate, financing and corporate transactions.
“When beginning any career, there will inevitably be uncertainties. Learning to grow and thrive in these conditions is a helpful skill to finding success” —Annie Garrett
For Garrett, finding success meant conquering self-doubt. “Imposter syndrome can creep in very quickly,” she admits, noting that knowing how to find answers matters more than having them immediately. “Now that I’m an associate, I am privileged to continue to learn and receive guidance from senior lawyers, which has continued to assist my success.”
“I’ll be a better version of myself at work if I also focus on things outside of it” —Rebecca Hynes
Hynes echoes this, crediting the firm’s collaborative culture with helping her trust her instincts even early in her career. “I am lucky to be surrounded by a group of lawyers who are always eager to help out,” she says. “This has allowed me to grow confidence in my own abilities.”

Both lawyers stress the importance of work-life balance. Garrett schedules exercise and time with family; Hynes pursues goals unrelated to work — running and reading specifically — to add balance. “I’ll be a better version of myself at work if I also focus on things outside of it,” Hynes explains.
Their advice to women entering business converges on one theme: find confidence in uncertainty. Challenges and questions are inevitable; thriving within them is the skill that unlocks success. “When beginning any career, there will inevitably be uncertainties,” says Garrett. “Learning to grow and thrive in these conditions is a helpful skill to finding success.”
