INBOX moves global headquarters to London, Ontario, marking a new chapter for a bootstrapped Canadian tech company

Bootstrapped email marketing company INBOX marks a new chapter in Canadian innovation and global growth

INBOX, A GLOBAL email marketing and business messaging technology company, is relocating its global headquarters to London, Ontario, marking a significant new chapter in the story of a technology company that began in Turkey and grew internationally without outside investment.

Founded by entrepreneur Emin Onur Genc, INBOX has spent more than a decade building its own technology infrastructure and expanding from a small startup into a global communications platform serving businesses across more than 30 countries.

The company now sends tens of millions of permission-based emails every day and has expanded its platform beyond traditional email marketing to include transactional email, email verification, cold email, NFC business cards and AI-powered marketing capabilities.

The move to London represents a strategic shift in the company’s international development.

Rather than simply maintaining a Canadian R&D presence, INBOX is now positioning London, Ontario as the company’s global base for technology development, product innovation and international growth.

From Turkey to Canada

Genc began developing the technology behind INBOX in Turkey, initially building the company’s own mail transfer infrastructure instead of relying entirely on third-party systems.

The first years were largely a development journey. The company spent several years building its technology before generating meaningful commercial traction.

INBOX eventually launched commercially in Turkey, where universities, government institutions, NGOs and businesses became some of its early customers.

The company later began expanding internationally, although its international growth was initially slow.

In 2016, Genc attempted to relocate to the United States with his family. Visa complications ultimately prevented that move from becoming permanent.

That experience led him to Canada.

In 2017, Genc applied to Canada’s Startup Visa program. After a lengthy application and immigration process, he and his family arrived in Canada as permanent residents around 2018.

For Genc, Canada was not simply a new market. It became the foundation for the next stage of the company’s development.

Waterloo Was the Beginning of the Canadian Chapter

After arriving in Ontario, Genc joined the Accelerator Centre’s incubation program in Waterloo, where he spent a year receiving entrepreneurial training, mentorship and support while developing the company’s Canadian presence.

INBOX subsequently established an R&D operation in Waterloo.

That Canadian presence eventually evolved into something much larger.

As the company continued to expand internationally, Genc began looking beyond Waterloo for a long-term Canadian base that could support the company’s next phase.

London, Ontario emerged as the natural choice.

“Canada gave us the opportunity to think differently about where a technology company can be built,” said Emin Onur Genc, founder of INBOX.

“We started in Turkey, built everything ourselves and eventually reached customers around the world. Moving our global headquarters to London is not about leaving our roots behind. It is about building the next chapter of INBOX from Canada.”

Building a Global Technology Company Without Outside Capital

One of the defining characteristics of INBOX’s growth has been its decision to remain independently funded.

The company has never raised outside venture capital and has operated without co-founders or institutional investors.

Instead, Genc continued to reinvest the company’s revenues into infrastructure, engineering and product development.

That approach allowed INBOX to build its technology infrastructure gradually while maintaining control over its product roadmap and long-term strategy.

Over the years, the company expanded its platform in response to customer demand.

INBOX Brush introduced an in-house drag-and-drop newsletter builder.

INBOX Verify was developed to address email verification and data-quality requirements.

INBOX Notify expanded the platform into transactional email infrastructure for CRM and e-commerce applications.

Cold email capabilities were later added, followed by INBOX Touch, an NFC-based digital business card.

The company has also continued investing in AI-assisted marketing technologies, including AI-powered newsletter creation and reporting.

Today, INBOX brings multiple business communication tools together under a single platform.

London, Ontario as the Company’s Next Growth Centre

The decision to establish the company’s global headquarters in London reflects a broader strategy to build a Canadian technology company with an international customer base.

London provides INBOX with access to Ontario’s technology ecosystem while allowing the company to remain close to the talent, universities and business communities of Southwestern Ontario.

The company’s operations will continue to serve customers internationally, with teams and business relationships extending beyond Canada.

However, product development, technology strategy and the company’s long-term corporate direction will increasingly be coordinated from London.

For Genc, the move also represents the completion of a personal journey that began with leaving Turkey, attempting to establish a company in the United States and eventually building a new life and business in Canada.

“I came to Canada because I believed there was an opportunity to build something globally from here,” Genc said.

“Years later, we have customers in countries around the world, millions of emails moving through our infrastructure and a team building technology in Ontario. London is now where we want to build the future of the company.”

The Next Chapter

INBOX’s relocation comes as the company enters a new phase focused on artificial intelligence, automated marketing and multi-channel business communications.

The company plans to continue expanding its platform while investing in its Canadian technology and product-development operations.

What began as a bootstrapped technology project in Turkey has now become a global business with Canada at the centre of its next stage.

For INBOX, London is no longer simply an R&D location.
