MY SON WAS a soccer player and I always used to say to him, ‘If you ever become famous, remember one thing: Mom wants a Jag.’
I HAD A birthday last October — it wasn’t one of the big numbers, but it was a bit of a milestone. I got to thinking, if not now, then when? That’s when I started to seriously look. I found him at London Honda — in immaculate condition for his age. The previous owner must have totally babied him.
HIS NAME IS Birmingham — named after my home city in England where they build Jags. I refer to him as my high-maintenance man. I know he’ll have some reliability issues that I’ll have to account for, and I’m okay with that.
THIS PARTICULAR JAG — the S-Type — to me has the classic Jaguar styling. Run your hand from boot to bonnet, the curves on this car are unbelievable.
I REALLY HAVEN’T had much of a chance to play with him. I only had him for a couple of weeks last fall before I popped him in the garage for the winter. Since then, he’s been started up every second day, wiped down weekly and taken to the end of the street and back now and then. I’m really looking forward to May when he’s back on the road for the summer. There’s probably some new clothes in order — I’ll need to dress the part.
THERE’S A DAY coming up when I’m going to take him out on the 403 and see how fast he can go. I know I shouldn’t admit to that, but as my dad used to say, ‘Sometimes, you have to blow the cobwebs out.’
HE’S QUICKLY BECOME my pride and joy. Who would of thought that at this stage of life I’d finally have my Jag?
