20 Under 40: Andrew Hentz

Meet Andrew Hentz, 37, partner at Lerners LLP and one of our 20 Under 40 Class of 2021 recipients 

DEEPLY COMMITTED TO community and country, Andrew Hentz is Canadian Forces veteran and the recipient of the General Campaign Star in recognition of multiple deployments to Afghanistan, the Commander Joint Task Force-Afghanistan Commendation as well as the Lieutenant-General Vance Award in recognition of his leadership during combat operations. As partner at Lerners, his work as advisor to some of Southwestern Ontario’s most prominent developers and homebuilders has resulted in substantial expansion for the firm’s Real Estate and Land Development Group and contributed to the growth and development of towns and cities right across our region.

What would you call your biggest business achievement, and why?

Gaining and maintaining the trust of our development and homebuilding clients. Their projects are complex and deserving of timely and competent advice.

Knowing what you know now, what advice would you give your younger self?

Be patient. A mentor of mine when I was a junior officer in the stressed that career advancement the prime focus should be on gaining in each position you may be entrusted. advancement will naturally follow. has really stuck with me.

If you weren’t in your current field, what would you be doing?

I would still be an infantry officer with The Royal Canadian Regiment.

What’s left for you, personally or professionally?

A lot — personally, my wife and I are welcoming our third child early this year. My son is five and daughter is three. We have many adventures and challenges ahead as they grow. Professionally, there is a lot to learn in order to maintain competency in this profession. You must stay diligent to remain abreast of legislative and regulatory changes, but also remain open to challenges and innovation in the way that you practice law. I also look forward to seeing current and future development projects come to fruition. Working with land development and new homebuilder clients is a bit unique in the legal industry, as their projects serve as a tangible reminder of our legal work. I enjoy driving around the city and surrounding communities seeing those end results.

What are some of your favourite pastimes outside of the office?

Keeping up with my children, staying active through hiking or squash, working on my backyard rink and reading history and international affairs. Interview by Kieran Delamont
